A Rare Glimpse Into the SmartPak Photo Shoot by Kristi - SmartPak Photographer

Glimpse 1: Rufus’ Birthday

Our original idea was to photograph a dog with birthday cookies and a birthday cake toy, a sort of “party shot”. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. When animals are involved nothing is easy. This is what I learned from this shoot.

Lesson 1: If you put treats in front of a dog, he will eat them (See Image 1). Rufus was no exception to this. He may have slowed down a bit (See Image 2), but there really wasn’t any way to get him to pose NOT eating cookies, except of course, to take them away, which we did.

Lesson 2: Dogs do not care about cameras. They will not sit up straight and look directly at you or cooperate in anyway unless treats are involved. Trying to use physical means in any way is futile.

Lesson 3: Dogs sleep. Enough said.

In the end I would say it all worked out rather well and we got what we came for. Photographing animals isn’t easy at all, but it sure is fun and there’s no shortage of entertainment during the process.

Stay tuned for another glimpse into the SmartPak photo shoots.
